I have completed the home page for my new redesign of the website.
The whole website will be rewritten from scratch – the way I like to do things. It will take about a week to two.
I will continue with Princess Ana simulataneously, although now it will take longer to complete both tasks, but I think it's okay.
Today I realized a surprising thing – that I had registered my website on 18 June 2001 – that's right on the 101st birthday of Princess Anastasia. And a year is almost complete – so I hope to be able to release the project to the public by 18th June 2003!
Yesterday I was looking for some stuff and I stumbled upon a software called “bochs” (pronounced as “box”) It's a wonderful new tool in my ever growing toolkit!
It's function is pretty simple – it acts like a PC while sitting inside a window! Example: I can boot my Linux and IBM PC DOS operating systems INSIDE windows! They don't realize that they are trapped inside software and what they are interacting is not real hardware!!!
Bochs emulates the x86 processor. And it does it very well. MS DOS, PC DOS, DR DOS, Command Line Linux – all run excellent in the bochs.
But as you might have guessed, when I tried to load Red Hat Linux 6.0 into it – things went from bad to worse. Windows 95 and 98 gave me similar trouble. The trouble is not with bochs – it's with my processor speed. As bochs emulates each and every processor instruction through software – it needs hundreds of more instructions to be processed by my real processor!! And that's the catch. Bochs runs veeeeery slooow whenever I try to load a GUI based OS in it! But It's Okay!
Also – got more RAM Now I have 128 + 64 + 32 = 224 mb of RAM! (Latest upgrade being 128mb.) Thanks to Ravi Kaka (kaka = uncle in Marathi) for the nice gift.
That's all for today!
Not really! Just got some Desk Top Publishing (DTP) work to be done by 7th of this month! It's a little telephone-directory for an organization. A few hundred addresses and phone numbers – unsorted. I have to sort them out as per the categories given and also enter them into the comp and design the book's layout and cover and all! Let's hope they like the completed work!
Whatever I get in return for this little job, will be used to fund my experiments or I might just save it for my Simputer (http://www.simputer.org). Let's see, it depends on the amount.
At this moment, I am typing (obviously) as I sip on a mug of pitch black coffee! I need to be awake till 5 in the morning if I wish to complete the work! It's not that I cannot work in the day, but I can work pretty fast in the night – no disturbances from anyone. Just me and my work.
Okay, I have started reading the famous book – “The Art of Computer Programming” by Donald E. Knuth. It's really good. I have no trouble understanding it exept when it comes to the Mathematical part. But I'm sure I'll be able to overcome it soon!
Surprise!! I cleaned my room once again! Mom was like “What?? You actually did it?” If you want to see how it looks when it's clean, come over right now, because by tomorrow, it will be exactly like it is always
Okay, got to start my work… goodbye lazy holidays!
Got some new stuff for my electronics experiments. Metamorphosed a few LEDs into DEDs (Dark Emitting Diodes) by giving them a raise (in voltage).
Although I did not visit the college today, I did visit our Statistics Teacher… Mrs. Godbole. Discussed a few things with her and got some good advice.
Finally decided that the BSCS project will be run on a personal basis instead of forming a close team. Ashutosh and Joy were informed accordingly. So that means I will be developing my content seperately and putting it up on my site… similarly Joy and Ashu will develop their content and deploy it on their sites. But there's one thing – we will be interlinking our websites so that if one of us gets a visitor, the other two have a good chance of capturing attention.
Princess Ana is all I can think of. The project has started off, a bit slowly though. I have been using my organizer to type in as many sentence patterns as possible. Later I will be adding them to the database along with the valid responses and mood change etc.
Electronics, it comes into my mind whenever I am not on my comp or the organizer! That is a rare time, but I use it. So now I have a complete remote control for Winamp using the “COM-Port Winamp Control” plugin and an old video game's joypad. It's cool to be able to start/pause/stop/fwd/rev/control volume and all the stuff right from my cozy bed!
Another development on the Electronics front: as said, I got some components, I'll be using them to form a access control system for my room! I have already deployed a door status monitor – an app in VB which monitors the (second) COM port for signals from a tiny switch connected to the door and shows a little icon in the system tray. It also logs the date and time and status of the door when it's status changes. It will help me to monitor when is the door opened and closed (when I am not in the room). I will also be able to monitor any trends in the usage of the door. Depending on that data, I might be able to devise an algorithm which suggests opening or closing the door at calculated times. Example: I open the door in the evening to let in the cool air, then in the midnight I close it before I sleep. So if I forget it sometimes, the software can remind me of my habits!
As for the studies, well it's just been two since exams have finished… so I won't be touching the books for another two or three days.
My website had logged more than 1690 hits by now! Well, to tell the truth, I had uploaded the database from my offline-development site… and that was offset by about 5 to 6 hundred hits, which means that the hits are a bit less that counted, but I have not counted the previous year's counts in it – so let's hope the whole matter solves itself by adjusting the extra hits in the previous year's uncounted hits. (“Previous year” does not actually mean that my website has been up for a year – it's been just a few months.. I am talking about year 2002 here.)
Okay, time to wind up and connect to the net and upload the blog and check my mails. I hope I get connected this time because I had been trying half an hour ago but it was all in vain!
Let's see what happens…
I have been surfing the net for a long time now… just checked my app to calculate bill – it's over INR 120!!!
My dad will kill me if he sees this!
This silly website had been playing roadrunner with me since last December, when I bought a Sharp Organizer.
This site had been telling me to get a new browser – i have MSIE 6, I tried latest Opera and Netscape but no use!
Today, I was checking my bookmarks and got it's reference… so I clicked and to my surprise the site worked!
Today must be my lucky day!
What was tha last post?
I am not going anywhere! Infact I tried blogspot… but decided that Blurty is the place for me!
Of course I have my blog running in parallel on my own website, but why not have two (or three) blogs?
Hehe, I love Live Journal (FYI: Blurty is based on LJ)
See you soon!
