Facebook: End of line
Gave facebook another try, for over a year. I like all my friends there, but have serious trust issues with the platform. I’m better off without it for personal use. Might continue to use for limited professional use as a “page”.
This is a part of my larger life cleanup plan, removing the unnecessary and unwanted. It’s time I followed through on it. Now to just make sure I don’t accidentally log in for next 14 days; appending the following lines to my /etc/hosts file. That should be sufficient, though there are more domains that point to fb.127.0.0.1 facebook.com
127.0.0.1 www.facebook.com Also removing fb from my posterous autopost settings, I don’t want fb to consider that as a ‘login’ and cancel my account deletion. Heh, feels great to have done what I wanted to do for a long while and feels sad that I’ll miss out on a lot of conversations, photos that are exclusive to the closed platform. The freedom from an untrustworthy platform is worth losing all that. Byebye! Yep, “trust” matters all that much to me. Current and future friends make note
