What I see when a spam bot is blocked by my bot…

I want to make this publicly available, but I can’t take the risk of blocking someone’s friend with my simple, but mostly effective algorithms and starting a war between the two said parties and be held responsible for that! So yeah, mostly for that reason, this stays a secret weapon.

That… and this whole gig doesn’t pay my bills 😛 Oops! Gotta get back to work!

Unable to Install Mail for Exchange on Nokia [alternate solution]

leave a comment »

I flashed my Nokia XpressMusic 5800 with Xtension Legacy 1.0 firmware, it does really work fast… however, I ran into a show stopper issue: Mail for Exchange failed to install with “Update Error”.

Research pointed me to an alternative that works just as well, perhaps better.

On this site, from “how to get” click on your country, then provider… if provider is not listed, click on the link to try beta. Once downloaded, install and follow prompts. Its working for me so far – if you don’t see any updates to this, it means it has been working since the day of posting!

Friends and Spam

leave a comment »

I often meet a lot of new people, I’m open to conversation, can adapt to the wavelength of others when I want and usually end up making many acquaintances on the way. I have a few circles of close friends. One being closest, few others being in the next ring, a lot more in somewhat further distant ring, and the new acquaintances being the most far out.

I’m cool with giving out my contact details to new people, just as I’m cool with making new friends. However, I’ve noticed that I get the most spam and unwanted emails via people in the outermost ring.

I’ve observed this: those people who tend to ask for your email / phone / facebook id as soon as you meet tend to generate the most spam in your inbox. I get mindless forwards, invitations to games, invites and relentless reminders to unknown social and ‘professional’ networks, to groups and events I don’t care about and just about everything that I’ve managed to avoid so far.

This is just an observation. I won’t change my ways of conversing with new people, but I will mark those who abuse my contact details as spam.

I am a citizen of the information age, what information I consume matters to me, and those who cannot spend few moments to find out and respect my choices are a hindrance to my being. Yes, I take spam _that_ seriously.

My inbox and life is better without some people.

ProTip: When not very sure that something is relevant to me, please don’t send it to me.

Love is like…

leave a comment »

Love is like your motorcycle’s silencer giving you a nasty scald on your hand as you poke around the engine mid-ride to fix a loose screw.

It’s a quick damage. Merely a fraction of a second before you get to pull your hand away. But by that time damage is done. You look at your
hand, and see the change in color. Meh, not a big thing. Or that’s what you think.

It turns black. You do everything not to tear the tender burnt skin. You ensure it is safe. You protect it with all your attention as if it was everything you ever cared about.

Then the wound starts to heal slowly. First that tender skin goes dry. It falls off, revealing the pink underside of your brown skin 😉 it still needs care to ensure you don’t wince in pain due to a negligent brush against some curtain.

Then it heals over time… and you are left with a wound that seems to take forever to go away. You fuss over it. Write blog posts about it. Your friends ask you if you’re alright.

Then one day it heals completely. There’s a mark left that’ll take years to fade off. You’ll keep looking at it until you have a fresh scald to nurse.

Yes love is like that 😉

TODO: A Thought

ToDo:
 – Be glad to have woken to another chance to make your life happier.
 – Make you life happier.
 – Make someone smile, anyone. Spread the happiness.

I think we need to put this at the top of our daily ToDo list often 🙂
